Today’s photo “Cross Shadow” was taken by David Schulwitz and was submitted in the Amateur Traveler March Photo contest.

David  says:

I took this picture while on a University of Hawaii study abroad trip in Mendoza, Argentina. It is a beautiful area of Argentina, famous for its Malbec wine and deliciously grilled steaks. The landscape itself (minus the snow-capped Andes) reminded me a lot of west Texas. This picture is from a weekend when myself and a group of students went hiking. Our leader said we could either take the 7 hour more challenging hike to the summit of the mountain to the right of us, or take an easier 3 hour hike. I immediately decided to take on the more strenuous hike seeing that I might never be there again. This was in June, which in Argentina of course is winter time, so it was chilly but sunny; perfect hiking weather in my opinion. It turned out to be a pretty challenging hike, but this was the view at the top. I didn’t know that the wooden cross was up there before we had started the hike, but it made for a great photo with the shadow.

I was in Argentina for 6 weeks, Chile for 2 weeks, and Uruguay just under 1 week. I stayed with a family in Argentina, and pretty much backpacked the rest of it, staying mostly in hostels. HIGHLY recommend the home-stay option if anyone has the opportunity :)
