The Amateur Traveler talks to Jeff Jung from Career Break Secrets about a trip to Northwest Argentina that left an impression on this intrepid traveler.
Jeff, an expat, who lives in Colombia, traveled to the provinces of Salta and Jujuy, far away from the normal tourist spots of Buenos Aires and Patagonia. In addition to frozen Inca mummies at the Museum of Archeology of the Tall Mountain in Salta, Jeff found a region that is still shaped by pre-Columbian cultures.
You can hear the echos of earlier days in the songs of its storyteller musicians. Jeff also tells us about a stark and beautiful landscape of rugged mountains and sparse salt flats in this high arid land including the 7 Colored Mountain and the Salt Flats of Salinas.

We’ve been living in Salta for the last two years. Sounds like we arrived just before you left. Jeff, you wouldn’t believe how much it’s changed in the time since you were here.
I wrote a post on my blog a little while about about why we chose to settle here in Salta instead of any of the other places we visited in three years of constant travel prior to arriving in Argentina.

We love it here. And how cool to see photos and such a focus on the place we live. I don’t see it too often beyond the boundaries of Argentina.

Beth, Argentina is definitely worth a look! And, if you head to Salta, you will be going to one of the best kept secrets of all of Latin America (IMHO).
